History of Our Department

Our department was originally the Information Management Department of the Kinmen Branch of National Kaohsiung University of Applied Sciences. It initially admitted students in the two-year vocational program during the day. Starting in the 91st year of the Republic of China (2002), an evening program for a two-year vocational degree was established. When National Quemoy University was established as an independent institution on August 1, 2003, the two-year vocational program during the day was transformed into a four-year program, and the department began admitting students for a four-year program.

To actively respond to the government's industry upgrade plan and cultivate talents required for software design, information technology, and system integration in the electronics industry, the department applied to change its name to the "Department of Information Engineering" in the 96th year of the Republic of China (2007). The department also focuses on the planning of courses with local characteristics and practicality in the fields of information networks, multimedia applications, and embedded systems, as well as the development of teaching and research in these areas. This is to foster individuals with expertise in the integration and application of electronic and information systems, as well as talents in multimedia and mobile commerce applications and services.

On August 1, 2010, the university received approval from the Ministry of Education to officially change its name to National Quemoy University. The department was simultaneously renamed as the "Department of Information Engineering." Furthermore, the department also offers an extension program to provide educational services for the local residents of Kinmen.
